Make a single line diagram from an Excel schedule
If your plant already has an equipment list and a cable schedule in Excel, you have most of a single line diagram. PowerTopology reads those sheets and draws it, so you edit a drawing instead of starting from a blank page.
What goes in the workbook
An .xlsx file with an Equipment sheet and a Cable schedule sheet. The equipment sheet lists each item with a tag, type, rating, voltage and level. The cable schedule lists each feeder with a From tag, a To tag, the supply it belongs to, the protection and the cable. Optional sheets cover busbars, tap-offs, groups and levels.
You do not have to rename your columns first. Your own headings are matched by name, and where the studio cannot tell what a column is, it asks you once.
What you get
- Items placed on their levels, from sources down to the final loads.
- Feeders routed between them, with cable labels, ties and normally-open links.
- Checks run on the model: no live supply, duplicate tags, items past their rating, critical loads on a single feed, and voltage changes with no transformer.
- A source-loss study that removes each source in turn and shows what goes dead.
When the schedule changes
Import the new schedule and merge it into the same drawing. You do not redraw the whole sheet. Changes are validated before anything is applied.
Getting it out
Export to PDF, PNG, SVG, JSON, or a project workbook with the positions included. A CSV cable schedule can be exported too.
Try it with a worked example
Download the sample data hall schedule, open the studio, choose Import, and watch 22 items and 26 feeders become a drawing.
Download the sample schedule (.xlsx)Open the studio
What it is not
PowerTopology draws and checks the connectivity of a distribution system. It does not calculate fault levels, voltage drop, cable sizing or protection grading, and it does not check a drawing against a standard. A competent engineer still reviews every drawing.
Questions
Does my file get uploaded?
No. The workbook is read in your browser and the drawing is saved on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I import a CSV instead of a workbook?
Yes. A CSV cable schedule alone is enough: the From and To tags become the equipment.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use the studio without signing in.
